Intro to Ice & Mixed Climbing: Queer

This course is for individuals who identify as queer.

Are you completely new to climbing? Or are you a rock or gym climber but have never swung an ice axe? Have you ice climbed before but would like to know the secrets to efficient movement? Are you intrigued by moving up rock using tools instead of your hands? Then this basics clinic is for you! You will learn everything you need to know about the fundamentals of ice and mixed climbing. You will have access to a variety of tool types and learn techniques to use them.

Prerequisite: Know how to put on a harness and tie-in to a rope; identify as a member of the queer community.

About the Instructor

For nearly two decades, Nikki Smith’s photography has appeared in Climbing, Rock and Ice, and Alpinist; as well as in ads, catalogs, and websites for many climbing companies. 

She’s written five guidebooks, established more than 150 roped first ascents on rock and ice throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, and traveled from Mongolia to Madagascar. Nikki's an ambassador for Grivel, Mountain Hardwear, REI, Beal Ropes, Bronwen Jewelry and Cypher Climbing.
