The progression towards light and fast alpinism is a fascinating one. It is the most surefire way to realize our goals in the mountains and the push them further than we originally would have imagined. This is because if we look at it is a progression and we take a holistic approach, we reach a point of optimization where we are able to operate inside of our comfort zone and thereby maximize our physical and mental capacity to achieve success. This clinic will view the progression through various means including Mindfulness, Fitness, and Gear. After this clinic participants will walk away with a new approach towards reaching their goals in the mountains.
Prerequisite: None, but participants with basic climbing and mountaineering experience will benefit the most.

About the Instructor
Brett Merlin is into all things climbing and been at it for over 25 years. His progression through climbing has taught him how to make the most out of his travels through a focus on light and fast climbing tactics. He started as a rock climber then learned how to carefully navigate choss in the alpine without knocking down too many rocks. After that, he started ice climbing a bit and has even been known to not DNF in a Ski Mountaineering Race from time to time! In his formative years, his strong climbing ability allowed him to get off route and runout faster than most. He likes to think he learned something from these experiences. An ongoing student of the craft, his travels take him all over the country to major climbing festivals to teach, work, and adventure as hard as he can in the limited time he has. You will often find him on the western circuit of the AAC Craggin Classic Series, the Bozeman Ice Festival, Ouray Ice Festival, and the Michigan Ice Festival. He’s excited to teach others and help them reach their personal goals in all aspects of climbing. Brett lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife and daughter.
