The International Expedition Planning Seminar consists of presentations by Ari Novak and Graham Williams followed by a critique of the attendee's expedition planning documents. Graham Williams has done substantial solo and group expeditions across Europe, Turkey, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Through his role at his company CiloGear, Graham Williams supported numerous international climbing trips and, unfortunately, substantial rescue and recoveries in the greater ranges. Ari Novak has led successful expeditions around the world including Africa, the Middle East, Alaska, and the Himalaya. On Ari's latest expedition to India, he and his team established 9 first ascents including "Snow Lepard" HWI7 the hardest water ice line in the India Himalaya.
Attendees will submit a short outline of their planned international adventure one week prior to the seminar. The outline should follow the standard format of any Mazamas grant, with information about the people and the place where you will be adventuring. Novak & Williams will provide cogent and pithy opinions. Fun will be had.
Prerequisites: Significant climbing experience with an international climbing expedition planned within the next 18 months.
